NETC 2018: Homecoming a Success

The conference was hosted by Virginia Tech, June 18-21 in Blacksburg, VA. There were more than 100 participants from 24 states, with 34 professional development sessions and six tours of Virginia Tech facilities. Presentation topics included digital accessibility, application development, virtual reality, and IT infrastructure.

Keynote speaker Dave Mitchell, founder and president of the Leadership Difference, kept us laughing and provided an eye-opening view into how best to communicate with other people.

One of the Wednesday tours was of the VT University Library Studios. Students and patrons have free access to several emerging technology studios, like the 3D Design Studio, where they provide free 3D printing, workshops, and 3D design and printer consultation for all library patrons.

On Wednesday afternoon, participants could choose one of six tours through campus facilities including a robotics lab, emerging technology studios, the Helmet Lab facilities,  and the Cave, an immersive, multi-person virtual environment.

On Wednesday evening, dinner was held on the lawn, with music and time for networking and socializing over games, and trivia.
