John Dorner

It is my privilege and honor to submit this letter of recommendation of John Dorner for election into the NETC Hall Of Fame, he was employed by North Carolina Extension Service.
I first met John in 1998 at NETC conference in St. Louis. John combines his strongest assets, knowledge of computer skills, enthusiasm, and people skills to educate people and implement technology for his clientele. John has presented at 16 different conferences. Many times, he had more than one presentation to present at the conferences. Based upon conversation after his presentation, he was well appreciated for his knowledge and expertise he brought to the field. Back in the late 90’s he was training county extension staff on how to create web pages using PhP and shared that knowledge with the NETC attendees. John also one of the pioneers in developing podcast for information delivery. John served on the NETC steering committee and was one of the team members that started the NETC awards program back in 2005. John was a team member to organize the 2008 “In the Pines” NETC conference in Raleigh NC. At many conferences John volunteered as session moderator.
Based on his presentations I was able to enhance my skills to use with my clientele back at the office.
John is a team player and on many occasions, he teamed up with other Information Technology folks from other states to create projects and co-presented with other IT folks.

While this nomination is not “complete,” I would like to add my support to anyone nominating John in a more formal way.
I can tell you that John participated in the NETC for many years, sharing his wisdom on a wide range of topics, from mailing lists to podcasting, when they were bleeding edge technologies.
I’m pretty sure John was a host for one or more conferences.
I know from firsthand experience that John would talk to anyone willing to listen about the necessity for NETC forming our own, organized, sustainable organization of Extension IT personnel nationwide. He is a founding member who deserves to be recognized.
