Paul Sittler

Paul Sittler was a long time member of NETC. He as on the committee that brought the conference to Texas, to College Station in 2000 and/or San Antonio in 2005.
Paul will be best remembered through his many presentations at numerous conferences. Even our members who didn’t know Paul personally will have heard of his contributions, through the titles of many of his presentations, “X – On a Shoestring Budget”.
Paul was a leader early in the usage of digital photography. At the 2001 conference in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, he gave one of my co-workers a couple pictures he had taken and printed on 8 1/2 x 11 photo paper, and on the back of the pictures were many links to pages about digital photography and how to improve your images, and this was my first real exposure to digital photographs. Unfortunately these the paper is deteriorating on these photos, but they are still very special .
Another memory of Paul was in one of the hospitality rooms at one of the Texas conferences, and he wanted to get peoples attention to ask for donations to keep the room going through the rest of the conference. He stood up, put fingers in the corners of his mouth, and let out a huge, ear-piercing whistle. It worked!
Paul had a huge personality, and unfortunately we lost him way to early. Who of us that knew him don’t think of him whenever we hear “… on a shoestring budget”? It’s my honor to nominate Paul Sittler for the NETC Hall of Fame.
